+<li>(20th Apr, 2004) <em>Samba 3.0.3RC1 available for download</em>
+ <p>
+ This is a release candidate snapshot of the Samba 3.0.3 code
+ base and should be considered for testing only. A release
+ candidate (RC) means that we are close to the final, stable
+ release and in provided for Quality Assurance (QA) purposes.
+ This release is <b>not</b> intended for production servers. Use
+ at your own risk.<br>
+
+ However, there have been several bug fixes and new features
+ added since 3.0.2a that we feel it is
+ important to make it available to the Samba community for wider testing.
+ The <a href="/samba/ftp/rc/">source code and GnuPG signatures</a>
+ can be found on Samba mirrors. <a href="http://samba.org/~jerry/RPMS/samba/">RPMS
+ for RedHat 7.3, 8.0, 9.0, and Fedora Core 1</a> are currently available. Packages
+ for other platforms will become available as their are provided by volunteers. The
+ <a href="/samba/ftp/rc/WHATSNEW-3.0.3rc1.txt">full release notes</a> are
+ available on-line as well.

- <p>
- The second patch release of the Samba 3.0 code base is now available
- for download from samba.org.
-
- <p>
- <em>Security Announcement:</em> It has been confirmed that previous versions of Samba 3.0 are
- susceptible to a password initialization bug that could grant an
- attacker unauthorized access to a user account created by the
- mksmbpasswd.sh shell script. Samba administrators not wishing
- to upgrade to the current version should download the 3.0.2
- release, build the pdbedit tool, and run<br>
-
- <pre>root# pdbedit-3.0.2 --force-initialized-passwords</pre>
-
- <p>
- This will disable all accounts not possessing a valid password
- (e.g. the password field has been set a string of X's).
-
- <p>
- Samba servers running 3.0.2 are not vulnerable to this bug
- regardless of whether or not pdbedit has been used to sanitize
- the passdb backend.
